Fairfax Softball Finishes with a Winning Season.

The Fairfax Office Softball Team had a grueling 3 month schedule with a ton of rainouts and rescheduled games, and still finished with a winning record of 7-4. Not having any forfeits was a great success itself, but earning a first round playoff bye was a cherry on top…by far WRA’s most successful season to date!

Blueprint for a Bicycle-Friendly Delaware. .

WRA used an inclusive public process to help DelDOT develop the Blueprint, which has the guiding principle of promoting locally-based bicycle planning within a coordinated statewide framework. WRA led DelDOT and key stakeholders in establishing a community-supported vision and goals and recommending a series of innovative strategies for planning, design, coordination, and communication. The Blueprint specifies 66 recommended actions, ranging from revisions to internal DelDOT processes to preparation of comprehensive bicycle facility design guidance.

Schuylkill Township Sidewalk Feasibility Study. .

WRA began by assessing existing conditions. 17 miles of sidewalks can be found within newly developed neighborhoods in the Township, but they rarely connect outside of the individual neighborhoods themselves. This makes walking to destinations difficult and sometimes unsafe. WRA developed and evaluated fourteen sidewalk alignments, investigated land use and right of way impacts, and developed concept cost estimates for each segment. To ensure meaningful stakeholder involvement, WRA led an ambitious public involvement program.

Services Performed

Charles Emerson Bridge. .

Under DelDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program, and at the request of the City of Newark Department of Parks and Recreation, WRA provided the conceptual design and construction documentation for a 230-foot single-span prefabricated truss bridge over White Clay Creek. Constructed in 2022, the bridge is a separated walking and bicycling connection parallel to the west side of the existing Paper Mill Road bridge. It provides a direct local, low-stress connection for all ages and abilities to walk and bicycle between Paper Mill Park and Olan Thomas Park.

Five Points Transportation Study. .

The Delaware Department of Transportation and Sussex County joined forces to tackle transportation and land use issues at the gateway to the Delaware beaches. Given the controversy surrounding past transportation projects in the area, a consultant team led by WRA developed and facilitated an inclusive stakeholder engagement process to build a broad base of support. Monthly meetings of a 16-member working group, along with ample opportunities for participation by the general public, formed the core of that plan.
