WRA Receives Grand Award from ACEC National .

WRA was awarded the Grand Award by ACEC National for the Enhanced Nutrient Removal at Back River Water Resource Recovery Facility. WRA's Dale Emerson, Karen Moran, Per Struck and Bill Wagner attended the Engineering Excellence Award Gala in Washington, DC along with Johnnie Hemphill, Lauren Swiecicki, and Gurminder Singh from Baltimore City's Department of Public Works.

Heavy Construction Contractors Association Recognizes WRA.

This $42 million project, located in Tysons Corner, Fairfax County, Virginia, improved the existing twin bridges carrying Route 7 over the Dulles Toll Road (DTR) and Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH).  Each bridge carries two lanes of through traffic and one auxiliary lane and has a concrete sidewalk.  The bridges were widened to accommodate 14 foot shared use paths on each side and to accommodate collector-distributor lanes under the end spans for the future Tysons Ramps project.  The existing superstructure was replaced, wi

2019 APWA Mid-Atlantic Project of the Year.

The City of Richmond’s East Riverfront Transportation Improvement project has been selected to receive the 2019 American Public Works Association (APWA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s Project of the Year Award in the category of “Transportation, more than $5 Million, but less than $25 Million.” The project has also been endorsed by the chapter and submitted for consideration in APWA’s national awards program. WRA was responsible for design, execution, coordination and construction management of this high priority project.

Loai F El-Gazairly, Ph.D., PE and Paul Duemmel, PE, Associates in WRA's Bridge Group, will be presenting the "Design and Construction of Post-Tensioned Straddle Bents for US 301 over SR 1 in Delaware" to United States Army Corps of Engineers and Delaware Department of Transportation.

WRA Expands Its Planning Practice.

Sam spent twenty-seven years of her career with the Maryland Department of Transportation in various positions at the MDOT-MTA and MDTA. She was the Director of Planning at MDTA, providing leadership for Project Planning, Capital Budget Management, Government Relations, Strategic Planning, and Real Estate. Prior to her position at MDTA, she served in various positions throughout her twenty-two years at the MTA, including Deputy Administrator overseeing the departments of Planning and Statewide Grants, Engineering, Communications, Government & Community Relations and Customer Service.

Diane has over 15 years’ experience in transportation planning, fare collection, transit benefits, system planning, smart card implementation, environmental & site planning, program and project management. Loveless Engages Students Through UrbanPlan.

UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging exercise in which participants—high school students, university students, or public officials—learn about the fundamental forces that affect real estate development in our communities.  Participants experience the challenging issues, private and public sector roles, complex trade-offs, and fundamental economics in play when proposing realistic land use solutions to vexing growth challenges.

Kristin Gunther Completed the ULI Young Leader Partnership Forum .

Kristin Gunther completed the 2018 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Young Leader Partnership Forum (PF) with the Baltimore District Council.  The annual ULI Partnership Forum groups ULI Young Leaders (members under the age of 35) with seasoned land development industry professionals for an 8-month long mentoring experience. The Partnership Forum promotes growth and exposure to current real estate trends and practices while fostering deeper relationships with local land development leaders. Each mentor group consists of 10 to 12 Young Leaders and three mentors.

US 301 Opens in Delaware.

Paul Duemmel, Sarah Proctor, Bryan Townsend, and Loai El-Gazairly attended the ribbon cutting for US Route 301. WRA’s 5.5 mile freeway design features a new interchange with SR 1, which merges traffic from US 301, SR 1’s EZ-Pass lanes and cash toll plaza, and a ramp from US 13.
