I-270 Interchange at Watkins Mill Road Extended.
AASHTO Daily Transportation Update featured the I-270 Interchange at Watkins Mill Road Extended (WMRE) in the Highways/Streets Section. WRA performed the preliminary and final engineering design services for WMRE. The design features a 623-foot long, 5-span, steel plate girder structure carrying ten lanes of traffic, a 1,439-foot Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) retaining wall ramp structure, and a 720-foot MSE wall supported ramp providing an on-ramp to I-270 from the middle of the WMRE span.
ENR Ranks WRA #109.
Engineering News Record ranks the Top 500 Design Firms in the country, according to revenue for design services performed in 2019. WRA ranked #109, up from #111 last year.
WRA Reshapes Harford Road.
Councilman Ryan Dorsey, author of Baltimore’s Complete Streets legislation, obtained a $400,000 grant from the Maryland State Highway Administration to reshape Harford Road through the business district of the City’s Hamilton neighborhood. The Baltimore City Department of Transportation’s (BCDOT’s) goals for the project included improved safety, slower and safer vehicle turning speeds, improved walkability, better accessibility for cyclists, and transit improvements.
