SR 28/I-279 Interchange. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

This project, which provided a direct connection between SR 28 and I-279, was awarded the 2009 Outstanding Highway Engineering Award from the American Society of Highway Engineers, Pittsburgh section.

WRA managed the traffic engineering efforts for the SR 28 / I-279 Missing Ramp Project on Pittsburgh’s North Side. WRA developed an innovative solution for restriping the existing interstate bridge from three lanes to four lanes, reducing the cost of the project and leading to improved safety and operations. WRA also developed short-term, low cost improvements for truck circulation during and after construction.

Other efforts included developing an Incident Management Plan which required extensive coordination with local emergency and municipal services, as well as developing signing, pavement marking, traffic signal, ITS, and temporary traffic control plans.
