Williamsburg Boulevard Water Transmission Main. Arlington County, Virginia.
WRA performed the planning, final design and construction administration of over 7,500 feet of 36-inch water main along Williamsburg Boulevard in Arlington County. The route is heavily traveled with numerous underground utilities. The transmission main was designed to provide additional capacity for Arlington County to supply the Minor Hill Reservoir from the Ethan Allen Pump Station. Preliminary engineering services included the development of a hydraulic analysis with multiple modeling scenarios for existing and future conditions and a detailed cost estimate. Final design services included extensive maintenance of traffic, utility designation services, utility test pitting, gas main relocation, and coordination and permitting with VDOT.

Project Highlights
Water Transmission and Distribution
The pipeline route was along a heavily traveled divided road with many existing utilities, including large storm sewer pipes, requiring an average depth of cover of approximately 7.5 feet. Traffic control was also challenging, given the large number of cross streets.
