Norfolk Federal Office Building. Norfolk, Virginia.
WRA’s multidisciplinary approach for the Norfolk Federal Office Building encompassed architectural and mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering. These projects required extensive field investigation, documentation of existing conditions, development of contract drawings and specifications, cost estimating, and construction administration services. Salient features include a new cooling tower, a refurbished air handling unit (AHU), repaired parking garage and tenant fit-out of two floors. Through the cooling tower and AHU projects, the building has an upgraded mechanical system to support the continuing needs of the facility. The new systems allow efficient equipment and updated control strategies for increased energy savings. WRA also conducted a comprehensive structural study of the building after a seismic event and provided a detailed report of recommended level of repair and monitoring. During all of the designs, our approach provided for minimum interruption while replacing or repairing components of the building’s system.
