Ward Road Park Master Plan. Dunkirk, Maryland.

Over 200 acres of undeveloped property serves as the canvas for Calvert County’s next regional park.

The 209 acre site presents an opportunity to provide active recreation and environmental educational opportunities within the existing rolling hills previously used for farming, as well as an extensive trail system throughout the forested portions of the site. Active recreation improvements may include baseball fields with amenities, multipurpose fields, junior fields, playgrounds, comfort stations, a skate spot, and a dog park; as well as paths for different users including hikers and bicycle riders. The environmental educational improvements may include educational gardens, demonstration areas, nature based playgrounds, a nature center, amphitheater, as well as camping and picnic facilities. Roadway improvements along Ward Road (including a roundabout), septic systems, and wells are also part of the master planning efforts.
