Schuylkill Township Sidewalk Feasibility Study. Chester County, PA.

Located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, this municipality conducted a comprehensive study to plan for future walkability, livability, and economic development.

WRA began by assessing existing conditions. 17 miles of sidewalks can be found within newly developed neighborhoods in the Township, but they rarely connect outside of the individual neighborhoods themselves. This makes walking to destinations difficult and sometimes unsafe. WRA developed and evaluated fourteen sidewalk alignments, investigated land use and right of way impacts, and developed concept cost estimates for each segment. To ensure meaningful stakeholder involvement, WRA led an ambitious public involvement program. A project Steering Committee, composed of Township staff and community members representing both residential and business interests, guided the entire course of the study. A walkability audit was also performed by the Steering Committee members, Township staff, and residents to identify pedestrian challenges and opportunities. In addition, two public workshops were held to obtain public input and review recommendations.
