Replacement of Substations. Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, DC.
The 20+ year old double-ended substations did not meet the anticipated power and SCADA requirements. A total of twelve substations, which provided power to the entire facility, were replaced in the span of three years. The new secondary double ended substations consisted of 15KV switches, cast coil transformers and secondary switchgears. The electrical design team worked closely with its design-build and government partners in replacing sections of the substations in phases to minimize downtime. The design team also provided a standalone temporary system to provide redundancy during the duration of the construction.
The design team also tested the equipment at the factory on behalf of the customer and wrote commissioning plans, pre-functional, and functional test procedures to meet the facility’s operational requirements.
