Downtown Streetscape. Borough of Tarentum, Pennsylvania.
The project incorporates Tarentum’s community vision and commercial revitalization strategy as outlined in the Borough’s Comprehensive Plan and refined through a walking audit conducted by WRA’s landscape architects and planners. Key elements incorporated into the design of this project included a complete streets approach incorporating design for all users and implementation of affordable, low-maintenance sustainable solutions. Streetscape elements include new street furniture, street trees, hardy/native plant landscaping, reconstructed sidewalks, ADA/ curb enhancements and shortened pedestrian crossings by incorporating curb extensions. This project also involves coordination with Norfolk Southern in order to improve at-grade rail crossings for pedestrians and improve the pedestrian connectivity. WRA’s role was to manage the project and the subconsultant team, work with the stakeholder groups to establish and refine the vision, design the elements of the preferred streetscape improvements, coordinate utilities, prepare conceptual renderings, prepare final construction documentation, and construction oversight.
