Bus Stop Accessibility Audit - MDOT/MTA. Baltimore, MD.

The MDOT MTA selected WRA as the prime consultant for an assessment of the ADA compliance and accessibility of over 4,000 bus stops.

This Bus Stop Accessibility Audit included an inventory of boarding and alighting areas (BAAs), regulatory signs and bus shelters within the bus system.  Field investigations with tablet computers linked to a GIS database were completed by crews throughout the region.  The evaluation found approximately 86% of the 4,053 boarding and alighting areas within the BaltimoreLink Bus System non-compliant with ADA guidelines.

Correcting ADA bus stop deficiencies can be a difficult task as the design requirements are adapted to different physical constraints.  Instead of developing individual designs and construction drawings for each bus stop, MDOT MTA directed WRA to develop seven typical designs for MTA contractors to use in pricing and constructing bus stop improvements.
