Multi-Campus Shelter-in-Place Protection. Washington, D.C..
WRA responded to the need for a personnel shelter-in-place (SIP) protection strategy and the capability to defend against an outdoor, airborne chemical, biological or radiological (CBR) event.
Security and facility operations personnel were interviewed, building areas and systems surveyed and strategies for each building at each campus were developed. SIP protected areas within each building were located so that personnel could move to them quickly and easily. Perimeter walls were upgraded to isolate the SIP areas and HVAC systems modified to allow for emergency shutdown. Where required for operational continuity, areas were fully protected with military specification level CBR filtration and over-pressurization providing for collective protection.
