Frenchtown Road Trail. New Castle County, Delaware.
Initiated by Delaware Greenways, the project consists of a 10-foot-wide trail along the north side of Frenchtown Road from US 13 to the City of New Castle. Trail amenities include informational kiosks, bicycle racks and benches, and pedestrian upgrades. The trail flows into the New Castle Industrial Track Trail, a seven-mile non-motorized link between the Cities of New Castle and Wilmington. At this trail connection, the proposed at-grade, mid-block crossing of Route 273 features a raised median and one of Delaware’s first Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs).
This project is part of the State of Delaware’s First State Trails and Pathways Initiative, which seeks to establish Delaware as America’s most bicycle-friendly state. The project will improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and mobility and expand connections between neighborhoods and towns to create more vibrant, healthy, and active communities.
