University City Transportation Study. Philadelphia, PA.

WRA’s transportation recommendations helped this Philadelphia neighborhood, one of the most prominent economic engines in Pennsylvania, stay on track.

University City’s medical complex is a cutting-edge cluster of clinical, R&D, and education facilities. WRA performed this study for the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation by developing a multimodal strategy to support continued economic growth without additional reliance on single-occupant vehicle trips. The study evaluated key access routes, intersections, and transit links to 30th Street Station. Outreach was conducted with institutional stakeholders, representatives of city and state transportation and planning departments, transit service providers, and neighboring community groups. The study recommended significant roadway capacity enhancement and improvements to transit service and to the bicycle network, coupled with strong initiatives to increase transit and rideshare use, support increased bicycle and pedestrian commuting, and spread peak demand over longer periods.
