Collington Water Storage Facility. Bowie, Maryland.

WRA designed two – two million gallon composite water tanks and 1500 feet of 24-inch water main to serve WSSC’s Intermediate Pressure Zone in eastern Prince George’s County.

To overcome a storage deficit in the WSSC Intermediate Zone, WRA prepared a design report, performed hydraulic modeling, designed and prepared contract documents, and provided construction phase services for 4 million gallons of additional storage and 1500 feet of 24-inch water main. Two side by side two million gallon composite tanks were designed, consisting of a concrete support base and a steel reservoir on top. The project design included deep foundations using auger-cast piles, required due to unconsolidated fill present at the site. A 1500 foot access road was designed, as was an altitude valve vault to control tank filling. Extensive stormwater management facilities were included to meet State required Environmental Site Designs (ESD). The tanks include mechanical mixers to prevent stratification of water which improves water quality.
