Captain Walter Francis Duke Elementary School. Leonardtown, Maryland.

To better serve the educational needs of the community, a new 76,000 SF elementary school was designed for St. Mary’s County Public Schools.

The new 76,000 SF elementary school is located on a 24 acre parcel adjacent to a planned County recreational park. As part of the initial site planning process, WRA worked with the project stakeholders to master-plan the site to accommodate an early childhood center, middle school building, and neighboring sports field complex that will be operated by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Based on the approved master plan, WRA designed all site improvements, road grading, and utility extensions for a 16 acre site to support the new school. Site improvements included mass grading, parking and circulation for 105 cars and 18 buses, sports fields, playgrounds, a dual basketball court, sidewalks, utilities, a site access road, stormwater management facilities, erosion and sediment control plan, landscaping, and signage.
