Waldorf Park and Ride Receives MDQI Award.

Waldorf, MD - WRA’s Waldorf Park and Ride Facility project was selected by the Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) as the winner of the 2016 Award of Excellence, MdQI Maryland Transit Administration Award for Projects Costing under $5 Million.

The project involved the design of additional commuter bus parking and service, while also implementing elements of sustainability in order to integrate with the local community and existing natural resources. The park and ride will reduce the number of vehicles on the congested roadways entering Washington D.C. The project was successfully designed in cooperation with many agencies and makes efficient use of space in order to provide maximum parking. It also provides for the most efficient bus entering and exiting from the site which will allow for ongoing lower operating costs. The design ensures no traffic queueing and minimizes impacts to residents. Pervious concrete and three (3) micro-scale ESD practices for storm water management preserved the “woods-in-good-condition” hydrologic character of the site and allowed for the preservation of a ½ acre forested area in its northeast corner.
